WBW

Yes I now realize today is Thursday....my bad. It has been one of those kind of weeks....

Last week Butter was watching something on the tellie about the Monterey Bay Aquarium so I thought that would be our theme this week for Way Back Wednesday.

I adored the jelly fish. These are Sea Nettles and they sting.

Spotted jellies in a cluster. They almost look like coral don't they?

A surprising find of Calla lilies (my all time favorite flower) outside Big Sur.

In the red...

It has been a while since we have had a Way Back Wednesday here at the Half Empty Glass.

Me and Boo Radley, 1939ish in Michigan

As you may know, the pain with being a bottled red-head is the fact that the color fades so quickly. So on Sunday it was dye day at the Tobey Ranch. Afterwards this occured:

Tobey: Maybe you should let it go back natural
Mrs. Oh: *gasp* Um. I don't know what color it is naturally any more.
Tobey: More reason to go back natural.

Now my natural hair (or the last time it was seen) has been described as being 'graham cracker brown' or ' graham cracker blonde' and that doesn't describe anything pretty in my book. Who rants over the graham cracker? In s'mores? No one raves about the graham cracker - it is always the marshmallow or the chocolate that steals the show. Cheesecake? Who raves about the crust? Being described as a graham cracker is nothing to brag about in my book.

So I tell Tobey that my natural hair color is just to 'plain'. If I were to go back to my natural color (dyed of course) I would need to choose either blonde again or brown and I do not look good as a brunette. Something about the day-glo-in-the-dark skin color I sport coupled with brown hair makes me look all Team Edward.

And Tobey says, "You could never be plain."

Yeah. I know......

He is such a good liar!

Way Back Wednesday: Kay

Tobey's Mom has been in and out of the hospital the last few weeks. Last weekend she had a minor stroke. She has been in and out of ICU the last few days - keep her in your prayers.

Way Back Wednesday: The first day...

Barbie: June 1999

Ya know Madonna left her home in Michigan with less than $50 in her pocket and headed off to New. York. City. Barbie will be heading to Atlanta next week for a kick-start on her life. Thankfully Barbie will have more in her pocket than Madonna did...

Way Back Wednesday Whatever

Mom, Gage and Yeti - 2002

So the decision was made to walk away from the church and I find out tonight that the preacher has called me the devil. Which offended me to no end. Then Tobey says that wasn't the worst thing he called me. I guess I shouldn't be so offended because I know the other people that left he talked smack about them too, so I guess if I had to be lumped into a category, I am in good company because I know those other 'devils' are really good Christians. Much better than I could ever aspire to be. But whatevah.

So this has been a wonderful month so far. Kirk died. All the issues with She-who-shall-not-be-named happened and will remain unblogged about. And all this church stuff. To quote an English friend of mine, "I'm shattered." Mentally. Physically. Spiritually. Everythingally.

I really want...a do-over button on my life. Press pause and then rewind several decades and just start over. But whatevah. What I really need right now is my Mom. To sit on her couch again and put my head in her lap and have her rub my head and tell me everything is going to be okay. I was 37 the last time I laid my head on her lap like that and I believed her when she said things would be ok. I know better now.

So if you could pause and rewind...would you?

One more thing: I don't know if you read B or not, over at Queen B. She is in my blog list on the left - anyhow, her husband is very ill. Pray for them. Visit her and give her some encouragement.

Way Back Wednesday: The GrandTobey

Just a few of my favorite pictures of Tobey's dad: The GrandTobey

Tobey, GrandTobey and friend at our old church's Annual Chili Cook-Off. See I told you they look like twins. And no, despite downloading the recipe for and cooking the World's Best Chili Cook-Off winning recipe: we didn't win. I would say it was rigged...but it was at the church.

GrandTobey rockin' a serious Mad Men look.

I love this one. He looks like he could have been an extra on Columbo, Kojack or Streets of San Fransisco. Bum-chicka-bow-wow!

Another Mad Men pose.

You just know he was waiting on PonyBoy and SodaPop Curtis to come pick him up.

Way Back Wednesday: The Blondie Edition

Dagwood Bumstead out for a jog? Not so my friends - this is Tobey's grandpa Buddy.

But this is how I will always remember him. Always with a smile and a hug. He was a great example in all he did.

Way Back Wednesday: A weekend at Nelson Lake, WI

This past weekend while I was decluttering I found a bin of pictures that I haven't yet organized. In that bin I found some pictures that I didn't know I even had. They were in a manilla envelope of pictures I got when my grandmother died two summers ago.

Great Uncle Dick, Dad and Great Aunt Maggie. I have so few pictures of her and I was happy to find this one.

This shot was a super-happy find! I only have a handful of pictures of my great-grandparents and I was thrilled to see this one. From left to right: Great Grandma, Mom, Aunt Ro, Dad, Dick and Great Grandpa.

The Great-Grands with Buffy. It is hard to believe this picture was taken in the early 80's. The grandparents are long gone and I suppose so is Buffy. She was such a good dog. Just look at that sweet puppy face.

Way Back Wednesday: The Julia/Max Edition

A little something new with a little something old:

This weekend Max went to the groomer and isn't he just the most handsome Bichon ever? After I dropped his whining little self off, I went thrifting and picked up this 1961 edition of Mastering the Art of French Cooking. It was a steal at only $1.99!

And since this is a new picture - which is a WBW sacrilege...I threw some 70's action on it using P-Dub's Photoshop Action Set 2. They're free folks! Go get 'em!

Way Back Wednesday: The "Back when insurance was cheap" Edition

In honor of Barbie's new car, I give you Barbie's first drive. At Disney.

And just because she owes us big time: a little embarrassment might go far to get her to save her money! And clean her room.

Way Back Wednesday: Snow

Gatlinburg

Nappy and Chewie: January 2004

Just think: 9 hours in the Shrekmobile and we could be spending the weekend in a winter wonderland. But why bother really when yesterday it was 44 degrees outside not including the (get this) wind chill factor. Yes friends, Florida a.k.a the Sunshine State is experiencing weather so cold the meterologists are breaking out Yankee words. Wind Chill Factor.
